Dirk Johannes Human is the Editor-in-Chief of Verbum et Ecclesia and chair of the steering committee of the newly established South African Editors’ Forum for Theology and Related Journals (2007-) in South Africa. He obtained his MA (Semitic Languages) from the University of Johannesburg (then Rand Afrikaans University) in 1984 and his DD (Old Testament Studies) from the University of Pretoria in 1993. He studied in Munich (Germany 1991-1992), Marburg (Germany 2001-2002) and Vienna (Austria 1999). At present, he is professor and chair of Religion Studies at the Faculty of Theology, University of Pretoria. He is member of various national and international scientific associations and societies, including the Old Testament Society of South Africa (OTSSA), chair of the Southern African Society for Biblical and Religious Studies (SASBRS), member of the DAAD Alumni (SA) Association, Von Humboldt Stipendiaten Association (SA), International Organisation for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT), South African Society for Religious Studies (SARS), SASNES (South African Society for Ancient Near Eastern Studies) and the Society for Biblical Literature (SBL). He is the author of several scholarly articles, and editor and co-editor of books such as Psalms and Liturgy (T&T Clark, 2005; co-editor: C J A Vos), Psalms and Mythology (T&T Clark, 2007) and Liefde is die grootste: Oor erotiek en seksualiteit (Protea Boekwinkel, 2007; co-editor C J A Vos).
