Cornelius Johannes Petrus Niemandt is Professor in and Head of the Department Science of Religion and Missiology at the University of Pretoria. He is a member of the management of the Centre for Public Theology at the University of Pretoria. He obtained the following qualifications from the University of Pretoria: BA; BD; Postgraduate Diploma in Theology and DD. He teaches Missiology for theological students. He is a member of a number of national and international scholarly societies, among others the South African Missiological Society, where he chaired the annual congress in 2011, and the International Association for Mission Studies. His field of specialisation includes: theology of mission, missional ecclesiology, emerging missional churches, ecumenism and missional leadership. He is author of a number of scholarly articles in academic journals, parts of books and a book Nuwe drome vir nuwe werklikhede (2007, Wellington: LuxVerbi BM). He is vice-moderator of the General Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church and attended a number of important ecumenical events as representative of the Dutch Reformed Church, such as Edinburgh 2010, the Uniting General Council of The World Communion of Reformed Churches in Grand Rapids in 2010 and Lausanne III in Cape Town in 2010.
